Samsung .bu exports

Update to the myriad of export types and formats produced by Samsung….

As detailed in this post, it is widely known within the Forensic Video Community that Samsung .bu exports were designed for playback within the DVR originally used to record the footage. They were unable to be analysed or played away from the unit. It would appear that things have changed.

Following on from this post, I was sent a .bu file from a newer DVR, an SRD-440. The file is now detectable as a standard AVC/H264 stream and, as such, can be analyzed and dealt with for any purpose. The other plus point is that any software that is able to read raw streams, such as Amped FIVE, are also able to deal with the imagery without any problem.

For Samsung to move away from problematic, proprietary recordings and stick with standards, is a real benefit.
